Yeah, I read Bridge to Terabithia as a child. I liked it, but at the same time, remember enough ten years down the line that I wouldn't watch the movie. No sad! Do not want!
My parents have been offering me a glass of wine with family dinners since well before puberty, you don't see me being an alcie... I suspect it has to do with the parents' drinking habits, the culture the child is raised in (woot for Mediterranean drinking!), and whether or not a person becomes self-destructive due to personal reasons.
As if the smoking ban wasn't bad enough, now they're interfering with parenting? Ye gods, as if governments didn't stomp all over the privacy of the home enough as is.
Aw, but you have to watch the movie! It may be sad but it's also beautiful!
Yeah, I've always felt that small amounts of alcohol are a good way to break away from the taboo culture we have in England (and seems to be worse in America), given that such a taboo culture tends to just glamorises alcohol in the eyes of children, and lead to binge drinking culture.
My parents used to let me drink the odd beer when I was young, and what harm is the odd little drink going to do anyway? All it does is let me get over the childish 'OMG! Alcohol!' idiocy.
That Golden Compass Film looks great! One of my must-see films of the year; i actually need to make that list incase i miss out and forget (i never got around to seeing lots of films last year :(...)
Maybe i shall have to see about Bridge to Terabithia this week - i need a huge great bag of cinema pick&mix.
Presumably for whatever reason it became once a month rather than all the time in the first place :o/
Perhaps they don't think there is enough of a scene to make a profit, although that doesn't seem likely. More likely they presumably think they can pull a larger crowd by using the room to attract a different crowd.
