good day

Today was nice. Got up, put on laundry, finished The Exorcist (suspenseful, but not scary-- although my friend Ryan now says I must see the movie, which will doubtless Freak Me Out) whilst enjoying the beautiful weather, had breakfast with maybe six of the usual suspects, came back to the room, read a good chunk of Gore Vidal's Creation ( ( Read more... )

The new Doctor Who started today. If you have any trouble tracking down torrents let me know. You shouldn't, it's probably all over the internet by now, but just in case.

*poke* Still no sign of my lab stuff. Did it return again, or should I start to come to terms with the loss of it? (If I do, prepare for much woe, hands cast dramatically to foreheads, whimsical sighing and ostentatious stoic forbearance.)

The scene that I found the creepiest in The Exorcist was left on the cutting room floor. I'm not sure if this is more of an indictment of me, the film, or the film's editors, but it's too late at night to consider very deeply. (It was the scene where Regan moved down the stairs like an inverted spider, I assume it was in the book, but I haven't read it so I'm not certain.)

*inserts plea for indulgence of the above rambling, due largely to the usual lack of sleep, not that this is any excuse*

So, um, for the record, Radiohead's The Bends is a fantastic album. I lost it in the shuffle of upgrading my hard-drives, and only just found it again among a cache of lost music.

OMG, did it? Was it good? Did you see it? I was starting to wonder about the third season. Oh, there goes my spare time. I'll have to poke around and see-- I have to be careful about torrents on the school's network, but I imagine I'll be able to stream it from somewhereHmm. Well, I asked around and it said that stuff can take up to three months for a trans-Atlantic crossing, so I wouldn't give it up for dead just yet, but it hasn't been returned, which is either a good sign or a... very bad one. (Can one be both ostentatious and stoic simultaneously ( ... )

Hah, yes, it is. I took a while to discover that album too, in a different way. I didn't much like it the first time I heard it, ignored it for a year, listened again for some reason and fell completely in love. Good stuff. (You should check out "OK Computer" if you haven't already. I'm fairly sure that the title is a "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" reference.)

Of course I saw it. :D Yes, it was very good, packed with those little moments that make us adore it. I won't get into the plot, but you'll like it. (Did you see "Runaway Bride"? That was on on Christmas day, and had evil Santas in it. Again. It appears to be a recurring theme, so now Russell T. Davis will probably have to deal with questions from amateur psychologist fans wondering why he's afraid of Santa Claus, for all eternity.) I'll be downloading the torrents myself, I know I'm going to want to watch these again before the DVDs show up, so if you like I can put them up on megaupload or something while I'm at it ( ... )

Ireland is obsessed with Father Ted. Seriously. I keep trying to watch it on RTE, but I never can remember when its on. But yeah, about a month ago there was a Father Ted Convention on the Aran Islands and over a 1,000 people went. Who knows where they slept. There are only 200 houses or so.

But yes, perfectly ordinary can really hit the happy spot.

I was looking through my lj friend's page and one "friend" has posted this long rant about how much he dislikes H.P. Lovecraft! This "friend" has been bugging me for a long time and I am now 100% seriously thinking of disowning him over Lovecraft.

He also compared Lovecraft to Stephen King. This is unforgivable, King may be compared to Lovecraft but not the other way round.

Well, to be fair, Lovecraft is bombastic, overly wordy pulp fiction. If, however, he impugned the writer further than this, he is, as we say around here, a heretic and must be purged. In fact, you should tell him so. Just say, "I tried to read your post, but it was just repeating lines, 'I AM A HERETIC AND MUST BE PURGED.' "

Ummm..... well, yes, it would... sort of have to be that way, considering one is DEAD and has been for some time. I very much doubt King had much of an influence on Lovecraft.

Unless he had a time machine! But I don't think he did. I think he just did a lot of drugs and thought he had a time machine.
