I spent the day at madigan army medical center as my mother in law had a stroke last night. Her right side is affected, but she can still talk, which is great. She was able to move her hand some today (open and close it, make a fist, that type of thing) which is fantastic as she wasn't able to do that last night. She's having a tough time -- she

More importantly I'm sending lots of positive vibes, soothing thoughts and great big {{{hugs}}} to you. You're such a strong person and I know how these sort of things can halt you in your tracks but I know beyond a doubt that you will find your level footing again and be as dynamic and fantastic as you've ever been.

I will say this--when my uncle had a stroke about 18 months ago, he really was able to make up a lot of the ground. He had what sounds like a comparable experience with your m-i-l: his speech wasn't greatly affected, but one of his hands was, and his leg. The improvement during the time at the rehab facility was really remarkable--I visited him a few times there, and each time there was a noticeable difference. He didn't quite get full functionality of the leg back--he still uses a cane when he's tired especially--but you would never know, if you just met him now, that he'd had a stroke.
