Finally finished!  It's only been a few days but it feels like much longer.  I had a lot of problems losing my count and forgetting where I was, then not noticing until a row or two later.  I didn't end up having to bind off that cast-on row.  I just unraveled the first row of it and it was perfect.  I don't know how it stayed together but it did
