Today was simply made of awesome. Twenty people showed up at the event we hosted and the field we play at had great exposure for the airsoft community in general. Word of mouth goes far in this sport and all who attended had a blast. The field will lend itself rather easily to league play once that kicks off down the road ( Read more... )

Really sound like fun. Too bad I don't live closer. Tug of War sounds particularly interesting.

It's one of the funnest hobbies I've ever gotten into. I used to paintball but when I turned 40 I had a heart attack and thought all that stuff was down the drain. Luckily for me the damage to my heart was minimal and I was able to get back into something like this. I'm making the most of this second chance.

Yep you really do live just once. That's a lucky break, heart attacts at a young age are usually deadly.

When I was going to school to become a funeral director one of our instructors gave us some fact based statistics. One of which said that if you lived six years after a catastrophic health event, you could plan on living another six years. If that holds true then I have to make it one more year and I may get some more time. Now watch me go to pull out of the driveway and get waffled by a cement mixer.

Sounds like a heck of a fun time.

Planning stuff always sucks a bit of energy out of you. I think that is why I am only help plan on of the sci fi cons and leave the other for my run around and have fun time cons.

I learned a few things from it and when the next time does occur I'll be better prepared but yeah, not having to worry with it has some distinct advantages.

Aww man, this sounds like so much fun - like a sophisticated variation of Capture the Flag from when we were kids.

You had a heart attack at 40? Holy fuck!

Yeah, that was a wake up call. I smoked my last cigarette on the way to teh hospital. My gf gave me a ride to the emergency room and figuring I was going to die anyway I smoked my last cigarette on the way. It's funny now thinking back about it but it probably wasn't the brighest move on my part. I'm happy with how things have turned out. I'm more active now than the year or so leading up to the heart attack.

Do you have high blood pressure? Do you have to take meds every day?

If I get really pissed off, it shoots up, but I try to keep the stress to a minimum. I take a 325mg aspirin everyday which seems to help, although I figure it will wreak havoc on my stomach at some point but by then I should have already cacked off. The non-smoking part has been the best thing. I can kick a cold's ass in three to four days, where as before it would be this long drawn out month long battle with bronchitis. Furhter proof that the lungs will in fact heal over time. I've lived in a smoke free house now just over five years and not smelling stale cigarette smoke is great.
