These books are a bit much even for ME in terms of sex and blood and gore and just ... you know, excessiveness, at times. But I still really like them. I am NOT however going to reread them again until GRRM manages to get the next one out.

Yeah, uh, I quietly removed the sex scenes in my first reading, but even the off paragraph ones occasionally have me like "Dude. This is so unnecessary." I think they're excellent books, but at times I wonder if George R.R. Martin, like the Fallout guys, spends too much time writing something and then chuckling over it. Hohoho, entrails. Hohoho, naked.

To put it as succinctly as Once and Future King does - everyone knows that chopping the heads off of virgins is bad, but how do you prevent the monsters, the mad, the self-deceived, we can go on, from chopping the heads off of virgins without becoming the very thing you wanted to save the world from? Etc.

I saw that in a cartoon once. Fox's BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.

Also, your description of celebration + deconstruction + contempation of good/bad and horrible = to me, those Russian Tolstoy novels you're so fond of. (Despite the fact I've only read one Tolstoy short story, but facts were meant to be ignored.)
