Tonight, the tenth night of Muharram was the night of 'Ali Asghar [Ali the younger], or just Asghar for short. Six-month-old Asghar was the youngest son and child of the Imam Husayn and unfortunately, was one of the casualties of the battle of Karbala'.

That's a beautiful way to put it. But I think he's just hiding from me now, haha. I don't know what's driving him to do that.. I don't bite [at least not at night].

I don't get it, why was he smiling when he got "shot" with an arrow? I've never heard that story before. And also what's "Muharram?" I thought it was the 3ahura now?lol. I always feel so lost.

Oh yeah, and who is this "cute boy" you're talking about?

He was probably smiling looking at his father or something else amusing [the soldiers?] and when the arrow struck, it killed instantly so he couldn't even cry out.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. Ashura' is the tenth day of Muharram :)

Cute boy is this guy who I have my eye on.. I see him at the imambargah [the place where the commemorations are held, I dunno what the Lebanese Shi'a call it] almost every night. The other night, he sat right beside me. I was excited to no end.

Imamwhata? lol. I don't know what the Lebanese Shi3a call that either.lol. Only religous Lebanese Shi3a go to that kinda stuff. I've never heard of that. But I do know that they go to the mosque during 3ashura and like smack their chests or something...and i think that's really stupid...but u know, religion can kinda be a drug sometimes. I love God and God is all I need. I don't need crazy 3ashura prayers or what not. But that's my opinion.

I can't agree with you more about the head-smacking [maatam] - nowhere in the story of Karbala does the Imam Husayn tell anybody to flagellate themselves for him.

I agree with Pecky...Herb seems the sickly type. What's up with that? Maybe he was just pining away cuz you didn't talk to him yesterday, and he couldn't face the thought of seeing you again...so distant and unapproachable!! Poor Herbie...
