I didn't go to work today. My friends who work with me weren't gonna come since the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum passed away yesterday in Australia and the government declared a three-day mourning period so all businesses [except supermarkets and restaurants] must remain closed till Saturday. But Global Links wasn't closed yesterday, and I did go ( Read more... )

All people are dying suddenly. It's just us who don't notice this.

I loved the last paragraph, IMHO, we do need to stop warring over everything. Its a 'One life, one earth, one chance' sorta thing.
I dont see any use for war, unless its like Humans vs Aliens. Although maybe we shouldnt fight the aliens either, they could be smarter, we could learn things. On the other hand, most people are too ignorant and closed-minded that they would probably just shoot all the aliens and maybe some innocent women and children. Anyone ever notice noone says 'innocent men'? Is there no innocent men? Lots of women are sly, evil creatures, and all kids are spawn of the devil..

poop. i'm sorry dan, we seem to have lost the point...

Lol, I enjoyed that comment :) No 'innocent men', eh? I'll show them *smiles innocently*.
I wonder if aliens would have two different sexes, like we humans do. Or would they have three, or four.. or just one? And if those aliens are smart enough to spot a planet with life AND invade it, I think it'd be better if we just sat and watched them take over and then learn things from them.

I was really surprised to hear about Ariel Sharon as well. What I think is even worse is that he just broke away from the Likud - a party which he helped to found several decades ago - less than a month ago to start a party specifically motivated to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict only to have this happen. I mean, this is probably the biggest thing to happen to Israeli politics in a long time, if not ever, and the world may never be able to find out what good could have come from it. I am not Ariel Sharon's biggest fan, and maybe it is only with morbid curiosity that I wanted to see where Kadima would go, but I really believe that it would be a huge shame if nothing could become of it. Let's just hope he'll be all right.

I'm sure Kadima's gonna go somewhere. For one thing, it has several popular members of the Knesset in it and these are the more open-minded ones who actually want to work towards peace. Even though I laud Ariel Sharon for taking such a huge step in such less time and working towards peace, I still want to see Amir Peretz as PM, because he looks promising. Not Netanyahu, though, he's too concerned about land than security which is quite the opposite of what most Israelis want in a PM.
Oh well, I just wish Israeli politics don't go down in a muddle because it'll give the very nice and civilized Arab neighbors something to attack with words [and possibly even weapons?].

Hello there :)

I was having that spiteful conversation with this fellow who thought [and prob'ly still thinks] he knew everything and was permitted to judge everyone who dared to post anything that he didn't like. He prob'ly got so annoyed by the fact that I was right that he just deleted his comments. I love annoying such people! :D

Anyways, it's really nice to meet you :) I'll add ya back.

I've been meaning to ask you since I heard the news a couple days ago, but what kind of a ruler was the Sheikh? I mean, ehhh...was he well-liked or mean, what did the people think of him? Do you have any daily 'rituals' like a pledge of allegience or anything? This is a little incoherent; forgive me! It's the weekend!

We aren't required a certain quota for entries where I work and therefore don't normally keep track but I did today out of curiosity and I made about 700 pricing entries in six hours. So, I guess I technically 'beat' you but...my job sucks more! =/ Lol.

The Sheikh was a pretty good ruler. No pledge of allegiance or anything [this is only the private schools, I dunno about the government schools which only UAE citizens can attend]. And I'm sure a lot of people thought well of him, though some might have held grudges against him for different reasons but I can say with some confidence that no one really hated him. He's the fellow who took Dubai like 5000000 steps further than our neighbor emirates of Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. And his brother, Sheikh Mohammed [the Defence Minister while Sheikh Maktoum was alive] will rule now, so we're in for even more prosperity, technology and development because Sheikh Mohammed's all about making Dubai the best place in the region.

And about 'beating' me, you have a permanent 8-hour job!! And you've been doing it for months :þ I just started!
