This morning the newspaper screamed 'New Year Massacre' and under that there was a massive report about the slaughter of 200+ people in Gaza by the Israeli Air Force on the eve of the Islamic new year

the death casualties shouldnt be proportionate. the only reason the death toll in Israel isnt higher is because bitches at the other side cant aim. and when is an oparation there justified? when one of those missels hits a school? a hospital? then, when the death number is higher, it would be ~ok~ to fight back?
other reason why the number of deaths there is higher is because they operate from within civilian areas. they're bases are in oparation and they launch rockets from within houses. then, when israel fires back, they scream genocide. BITCH PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEE.
no other country in the world would tolerate rockets and missels being fired on their cities, so the international community can kiss my black ass. England would start world war 3 if london was being attacked daily for months.
If a criminal attacks a man, is the correct response for the police to kill him and every single member of his family?
What do you expect of Gaza? Its not another country, it is basically a big prison camp, that has big walls surrounding it, and Israel controls the inflow and outflow of supplies, energy, capital, and human resources.
My friend Itai (nir1) pointed out below that Hamas had the opportunity to continue this ceasefire but foolishly chose otherwise. There are two sides to a coin, Israel can't be held entirely responsible for the crisis in Gaza. Hamas has big big responsibility towards the civilians of Gaza but right now they're more interested in pushing their agenda of snatching "every inch of the Holy Land" from the Evil Zionist Regime.
That's exactly the problem. Both of them think (and try to convince onlookers) that their side is right and the other side must be pushed into the sea. Such incredible childishness isn't expected of heads of state and cabinet ministers but hey, this is the Middle East - genocide is the second-favorite regional pastime (the first being smoking the hookah).
If the Israelis are not genocidal, why were so many civilians killed, now and in previous battles? Please don't say 'because Hamas fires rockets from civilian areas.' That's not good enough. If there are civilians in the way, you don't drop bombs on them unless you have no regard for their lives (which presumably is the ethos of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who don't care about the lives of Israeli civilians

I'm usually sympathetic to the Israeli side. But I agree this strike was over the top.
What I want to know is what really motivated the Israelis to do this mere days after they opened Gaza's borders to food and medical supplies. Something doesn't make sense and isn't in the papers.
In a way, I think the Israeli government tries to portray itself as the villain... but I can't claim to understand in the least.
I know the above, and am not convinced this is the case. Even during the cease-fire, I read reports of dozens of rockets flying into Israel daily. And I even thought Hamas canceled the cease-fire before the original expiration. More, as I said, Israel recently allowed in large amounts of humanitarian aid. It's true that since the cease-fire ended, Israel has been greatly bombarded; however, this is far from the first time. In this case, I think Israel is after something more than a show of force and terror... but I don't know what. And to achieve whatever ends, lives of Palestinians do not seem to mean much.
I think this article might help: http://www.kuwaittimes.net/read_news.php?newsid=MTI5MjY4NDkwNA== There was a level of secrecy to this operation. Needless to say, this article should be taken with a pinch of salt.. it's published in all the major pro-Palestinian media outlets, but haven't seen a variation of it even in liberal Israeli news outlets yet.
Like I said in the post - this tit-for-tat arrangement would just be a temporary solution until someone with more than just brawns comes up with a peace agreement that will actually work. Surely that's more desirable than mass killings.
The stated aim of this war is to force Hamas into sitting down and negotiating. That has been the stated aim since day 1, and Hamas could have stopped the killing, as of day 1, by saying 'yes, we will talk'. In fact, they could have stopped the entire war from taking place by reining in their militants and agreeing to talk. But they haven't, and it looks like they are choosing to go down in flames before they agree to negotiate.
