In the first mention of the Hebrew language in a good light in our local media, educators have voiced their opinions about promoting the learning of the language in Arab countries to reciprocate the learning of the Arabic language in Israel, where Arabic is one of the official langauges ( Read more... )

No wonder people are so scared of Israel. You people mete out the worst punishments imaginable.
It's gonna be hard saying goodbye to my parents and go to jail with Ivri Lider. Oh so hard ;)
Though, I can't help but laugh at how you labeled Ehud, Eviatar, Meir and Yossi Banai as 'the Banai Boys'.

I miss drinking water too..

Did someone spot the moon last night? My dear heart, we have a Moon Sighting Committee here in the UAE. Can you imagine how jobless they must be, sitting and staring at the moon all day.. er, night.

It's Ramadan already? It seems so early. Well, happiness to people of both faiths! It's so disheartening watching the news and seeing so many stories of violence and ignorance ( ... )

Yeah, it's Ramadan - again!! It moves up 11 days every year, so maybe that's why you think it's early.

I have Lebanese friends who weren't too bothered about the caranage in their homeland. I was more concerned about it than they were.

Japanese is comparatively tougher to learn.. I don't think I'd ever be able to learn Japanese easily.

happy new year and happy ramadan! shalom and salaam from brooklyn. from my understanding there was no moon last night, i checked 3 times myself and the internet a few times... so tonight starts the fasting! im giving up coffee in the spirit of slowing down.

here's to universal friendships.

oh.. i told my baby nephew that aunt gabi could eat today because the moon didnt show up last night :) and i wished him a happy new year too. yay multiculturally intelligent babies!

No no no.. it's not Happy Ramadan.. that's like saying "Happy Yom Kippur!"
Instead, you can say "Ramadan Kareem" [Generous Ramadan] or "Ramadan Mabrook" [Blessed Ramadan].

Good luck with the fasts! May they be easy.

And I just hope your nephew grows up to be as multiculturally intelligent as you are.

I was discussing how beautiful it would be if Israelis and Arabs lived together in peace and justice and if Palestinians had a land to call their own and Israelis as well and how perfect the middle east would be if everyone just set their differences aside. It was a nice little hypothetical dream.

Also, on the note of "teaching Hebrew to learn the language of the enemies." I highly doubt the teaching of Arabic to Israeli people has anything to do with peace. I'm sure it's for the very same reason of "knowing your enemies," just not so openly voiced.

I meant to say I was discussing that with my friend two nights ago (somehow I left that info out) lol

Aww, you know I have such nice, saccharine hypothetical dreams too, from time to time. The only difference between yours and mine, is probably that I play peace-maker in my dreams.

Yes, I'm sure the people in the Israeli military learn Arabic for this very reason.. so they can call up Lebanese Shi'as during times of war and ask them where Hasan Nasrallah is. That was my whole point of writing about the need to have a different reason to learn each other's language.

" . . . the only difference between yours and mine, is probably that I play peace-maker . . . "

What's that supposed to mean? Are you saying I'm violent? wtf?
