For the record, I adored living and studying in Edinburgh, and from what I remember, the med students are a pretty tight-knit and friendly lot. It's a magnificent city, too. Nothing quite like it.

Oh, I didn't know you studied in the land of bagpipes and kilts! That's nice :)
But the med school there is apparently really hard to get into. I'm gonna have to have all As and a bundle of voluntary work to be able to even apply.

You should go with what your heart tells you. I think medicine would be a great discipline to study, but law is also very important.

I do, however, feel compelled to tell you that Scotland would most likely be an awesome country to study anything in, so whichever one you choose, study in Scotland, dammit!

Jes, I shall keep that in mind :) Maybe, when I'm there, you could visit me and we could walk around in kilts :)

Kilts rock! That reminds me of a funny story a friend of mine told me. He was walking around on his university's campus and he came across a guy wearing a kilt. He walked up to him and asked "Why are you wearing that dress?" and the guy just stared daggers at him. He responded "It's not a dress. It's a kilt. Do you know WHY it is called a kilt?" The kid sheepishly shook his head no. The guy wearing the kilt said "Because everyone who ever called it a dress...got kilt. BWAHAHAHAHA!" And after a few good laughs, he started to stare daggers at my friend again. Good story, huh?

:D
That's a nice one! I wonder why he stared at your friend the second time. Perhaps your friend asked him why he wasn't playing the badpipe.. oh whoops, bagpipe.

I might be sent off to U.S. and that'll most probably be Minnesotta or Philadelphia... or if i dont get to the States, it'll be off to Sri Lanka for me! Well, that's not decided yet.. so let's see what happens.

I'm not SURE if I'm going to Edinburgh at all. I have to apply first.. and wait for the beetches to accept me. I might even end up in the very south of the UK.. so I'll have an even worse accent, lol.

I really hope you get yourself into an American university.

**huggles**

You love chemmy don't ya'? Med would be yummy then :D

Chemistry was my forte when I was doing my 'O' Levels. These were my subjects for my 'A's:
-Chem
-Bio
-Phy (eww!)
-Lit in English

=) A combo like that would make the 1st year of med school rather easy as the foundations are all set :) I'm in the first year and don't study as much as my other classmates who have their noses stuck in the books. Oh and I still manage to top with a high destinction (90%). Not bragging or anything here. Just saying your subject combo would do you wonders.

Again, for all unis in the UK, Chemistry is compulsory. They have this new UCLAS (or something of that sort) system. Check this out with your school counsellor. :)

All the best :)

I loved Chemistry in my O-levels! It was so much fun. I haven't taken it this year in my 'A's, but next year I'm taking Biology and Chemistry. I'm told it's a very tough combo, but I love Chem and Bio!

You didn't like Physics? Quantum Physics and the chapter about the Universe - that's just amazing. I love some bits of Physics a lot, I've grown quite fond of it [maybe it's because of the teacher]. Oh well, we all have our tastes.

I'm not sure if this combination is going to make anything easy for me in the UK. Since O and A levels are both British productions, their Med School students probably won't have time to relax because they won't re-teach whatever the student is supposed to know from the A-levels. But it's good to hear you're doing so well! Congratulations :) Keep it up.

My school counselor won't know squat about UCAS [Universities and Colleges Application System], but the education couselor at the British Council has helped me in the past and I'm sure they'll help again.

Hey sweetheart.. Nah.. trust me.. first year of med school in the UK is easy provided you have a solid foundation! :) I got accepted into Oxford & Kings College to do med there but backed out cos of the cost (they don't have scholarship for international students)! Edi. was one of my choices but I didn't get accepted- they didn't even get back to me for that interview thing. In my statement of purpose, I talked about my experience as a clairvoyant psychic medium and healer.. Guess they didn't like that. LOL! :D

Bio and chem though subject combos? Blah..Bullshit. I got 'A's with 2hrs of study per day. :) I'm sure you'd do loadss better.

I got a freggin B for physics. I *lurve* quantum physics and love finding the link btwn that and spirituality. FUN!!! But other than that, argh. Its too 'mechanical'. :D

All the best hon :)

Aw, you're so sweet, calling me nice names and all :)

Wow, Oxford for medicine! You must be over-the-top smart to get in there. I know the costs are smacking high, but so is their quality of teaching/education. What's it like in Romania? I mean the costs/life/studies? Any sign of it getting harder?

I might end up with a B in Physics too. That's just because of all the stuff about gravitational, electric and magnetic fields. Especially the latter - it pisses the hell out of me.
You know, I love finding a connection between spirituality and Physics too. It's just natural, I guess. Astronomy really fascinates me, so I soak up as much as I can about it.

Thanks :) By the way, I've friended you. Hope you don't mind.

I don't know very much about law and law studies, but I was under the impression that certification at the bar was country (and state) specific, not the actual degree. Sure it takes extra study to pass a different country's exam, but most western countries follow the same guidelines.

If you get a medical degree, you still have to be put up against another country's guidelines for how a doctor practices. A medical degree isn't a magical sheet of paper that automatically allows you to work in any country.

Lawyers are very often painted badly by scores of resentful people. Most of them are honest hard-working people... and there's alot more to law than criminal and divorce law.

I wanted to be a doctor for a long time and studied to that effect- I probably could have too, if I had chosen to follow through. But know that you'll be badly treated for a very long time. You'll have to go through inhumanly labors without sleep for days on end. And no consideration will be given to you for your efforts at any point along the way.

I know that most lawyers aren't what they're portrayed to be, but don't you agree that you have to lie/hide the truth when fighting in a court?

I've been reading in places that there's a shortage of doctors in a lot of countries. That gives me another reason to study medicine.

As for the bad treatment, there's no gain without pain, is there? I suppose that for doctors/medical students, the pain is more than the gain.. but oh well.

Thanks for providing an opposing point of view :)
