Icon Tutorial No. 25: CCSakura2

Apr 01, 2007 13:17

Eeps, sorry this is out so late--Prom was yesterday and last week was just... Yeah. Anyway, requested by
whitelilies22 and
onigirixx. This icon won Best Color at
clamp_hush Week 76 and can be made in 7 steps.

Level: Easy
Program: Adobe Photoshop 7.0

Go from this to this:

This tutorial works best with bases that contain one bright color to fuc on. It should not be overwhelming--rather, it should be lightly scattered throughout the image.

1. Crop this image at 94x94 px so that the focus is only on half of Sakura's face.

You should see something like this:

2. Duplicate the layer (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V) and sharpen it (FILTER>>SHARPEN>>SHARPEN). Set this layer to 25% opacity, or whatever looks the most clear on your image.

You should see something like this:

3. Duplicate the layer again (CTRL V) and go to FILTER>>BLUR>>GAUSSIAN BLUR, radius 3.5. Set this layer to OVERLAY so the colors are all brightened.

You should see something like this:

4. Create a new layer and fill it with #000000. Set this layer to HUE. Take a 9 pt round eraser and erase all the green parts of the image (her eye, the glowy ball, the side), so they are no longer black and white.

You should see something like this:

5. Create a new layer and select the 5 pt round brush tool. Use #2CBD19 and paint over all the jewels, Sakura's eye, and even the bit of Syaoran's hair so it doesn't look so obviously misplaced. Then set this layer to SOFT LIGHT so the colors are more bright and shiny. (The colored layer looks like this.)

You should see something like this:

6. Open this texture by
ianthinae and paste it onto the icon (CTRL A>>CTRL C>>CTRL V). Set this layer to SCREEN so there's dots of green on the sides.

You should see something like this:

7. Merge all the layers (CTRL+SHIFT+E) and open a blank 100x100 canvas. Paste your icon onto the blank canvas and then use this dotted border brush by me in #2CBD19. Save, and you're done!

Your finished product should look like this:
