Watch as Wiccy gets political

I was just reading over my Flist and found a post that a friend had made saying that one of reason she didn't vote for Obama was his stance on "Gun Control".

From Change.gov
Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun ( Read more... )

For the record, I'm a Libertarian, and I voted against McCain. Four more years of crazy conservative Christians in the White House, would be 8 years too many.

- I agree that weapons, as they relate to children, are a parenting issue. Good Parenting shouldn't be usurped by Big Government.

- There's a Gun Show Loophole? And I haven't been taking advantage of it?? Dammit!!

- My personal opinion, is that there shouldn't be a Ban on anything. I concede the need for regulations, it should be hard for stupid people to get fully automatic weapons.
Conversely, Darwin suggests that there wouldn't be nearly as many stupid people if the government would just stop protecting them from themselves. Maybe then, I wouldn't have to do my shopping at 2am.

The waiting period does not apply to Gun Show purchases. Not to mention that the practices at gun shows (that I have seen) are often shady at best.

The unfortunate thing about stupid people is that in reality they rarely kill themselves, especially when talking about guns, and instead kill other people.

I agree with a TON of what you're saying. The gunshow loophole is absolutely ridiculous. I think a gunshow loophole helped out the Columbine shooters. And I still do not understand why the average citizen should be allowed to own assault weapons. They are meant for one thing which is mowing down as many living targets as possible in the shortest amount of time as they've proved at shopping malls, churches and schools ( ... )

Can I wander off topic? I had a year of Japanese class in college. My teacher was litteraly right off the plane from Japan. She was constantly terrified and jumpy as frak.

Months later, she showed us a Japanese newspaper. In the top right hand corner, there was a number that indicated the number of murders for the entire country for that day. On that day, there was 1.
Total. For all of Japan.

She said that was normal, that it ranged from 0-4 most days.

Wow! Thanks for the info. So the knifing incident must have been horrendously traumatizing for the nation. Although, I read about a few cases last year in which sons (all unrelated to each other) had killed and butchered their mothers, one even tossed her head into a police station or something. @_@ There was an article on the disturbing rise in gruesome knife crimes like that though I imagine it's still considerably less than the violence here.

I bet it was traumatizing. However, we also get all these freedoms and things that are nice too. Their lives suck in some ways. Still, there's apparently ways to reduce the death rate.

*shrug* I don't know the solution. I wish I did.

My personal opinion is that nothing should ever be banned or restricted in order to protect our right to overthrow our government when it ceases to represent us... except that if our government fails to represent us there would be two important issues with the whole logic of the statement. 1. If you're in the position of having to overthrow your government, whether you can legally obtain weapons will be the LEAST of your worries. 2. You could not possibly afford enough legally obtained weapons to overthrow your government without first losing your goddamn mind ( ... )

Well, since our almost-VP owns at least one AK-47 for supposed hunting, I DEFINITELY support the Assault Weapons Ban. And closing the gun show loophole is a MUST. So, basically, in a nutshell, I fully support this proposition. I also think Change.gov is an AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT idea. I think it will be a great leap in actually being a government "of the people, by the people."
