Part One
Kevin had, of course, missed his second appointment with Scotty. Scotty was already angry and upset with Tommy on Kevin’s behalf. Add onto that the fact that his disappearance prevented Kevin from returning home and finally being with Scotty. Frankly, Scotty was going to follow Nora’s lead and slap Tommy the next time he saw him.
But he wasn’t going to think about that right now. Because the center opening was over, so he could stop working on that, and the charges had been dropped, so Kevin could stop worrying about that. And right now, they were in their bed, slowly and tenderly kissing. Considering how long it had been, Scotty had assumed that their first opportunity together would be rather frantic and passionate. He had to remind himself sometimes that Kevin does have a romantic side, even if he tries to keep it hidden.
As if to prove that, Kevin pulled back from the kiss and gazed into Scotty’s eyes. He ran his hand down Scotty’s neck and chest, resting his fingers just over Scotty’s pounding heart. "I’ve missed you," Kevin said with a small smile. He closed his eyes and shook his head quickly. "Not just, you know, this, but...it feels like we haven’t seen each other at all, lately, and - "
"I know," Scotty whispered. "I’ve missed you too."
Kevin leaned back in for another kiss. Then things started to get a little more heated. Scotty wrapped an arm underneath Kevin’s, pulling him closer. He lowered his lips to kiss Kevin’s neck, and Kevin dropped his head back to allow him more room. Scotty could hear his husband moaning and gasping for breath, and he smiled at the sounds. Then he abruptly pulled back, rolling over to reach for the bedside table. Just as he pulled open the drawer, the phone rang. Scotty stiffened in defeated annoyance even as he heard Kevin mutter a quiet "God, no" behind him.
Scotty reached up and grabbed the handset from the charger. Bringing the phone up to his ear with a sigh and trying to hide his anger at whichever Walker was bothering them now, he answered. "What?"
There was a pause. "Scotty?"
Scotty quickly sat up. "Dad!"
"Is something wrong?"
"What? No! Uh, no. I just...thought you were someone else calling."
"OK," his dad replied, still sounding somewhat confused. "Well, I just wanted to let you know that I have a business convention in L.A. next week. Your mom thought she’d come with me, and we’d visit you and Kevin."
Scotty ran a hand down his face. If it wasn’t one stressful family situation, it was another... "Yeah, sure. That sounds fine."
"Great! Well, I’ll let you get back to...whatever you were doing. I’ll call in a couple days when we know more."
"Sounds good. Bye."
Scotty hung up, lowering the phone into his lap while dropping his head forward with a sigh. He could feel Kevin moving next to him as he sat up and wrapped an arm around Scotty’s waist.
"Everything OK?"
"Yeah, I guess," Scotty said quietly. "They’re coming to visit next week."
Kevin nodded, his chin propped on Scotty’s shoulder. Then he reached around Scotty to grab the phone before stretching over to return it to the table.
"It’ll be fine; don’t worry."
Scotty scoffed but allowed Kevin to softly push him back down to the mattress. Bringing his arms around Kevin’s neck, he asked, "Do we really need to deal with my parents on top of everything else?"
"What’s one more problem at this point?" Kevin whispered with a grin as he leaned down to kiss Scotty.
Scotty laughed against his lips. "Good point."
"But that’s next week," Kevin added, reaching out to the open drawer next to them. "I think we should focus on something else tonight."
A few minutes later, Scotty wasn’t worrying about his parents or, really, much of anything else.

"Hi Mom."
Kevin placed his briefcase on the kitchen counter, giving Nora a kiss on the cheek before walking past her to the coffee pot.
"Hi sweetie. There’s some fruit if you’re hungry."
Kevin shook his head. "No, thanks. I just wanted to let you know we can’t make dinner Friday night."
"Ohh. Why not?"
Leaning against the counter, Kevin took a sip of his coffee. He made a face as he swallowed the hot liquid. "Scotty’s parents are going to be in town."
"Really? That’s great! Bring them to dinner," Nora suggested.
Kevin stared at her for a beat. "No."
"What? Why not?"
"Mom, the last time they were here, things went so badly that Scotty would have been justified in leaving me. Do you really think I’m going to subject them to a Walker family dinner?"
Nora rolled her eyes. "I’ll make everyone promise to be on their best behavior."
"Yeah, that always works."
"Kevin."
Kevin sighed. "I’ll ask Scotty."

Scotty cleared his throat nervously as he ran a hand through his hair. His father’s meetings had ended an hour ago, and his parents should be arriving at the loft any minute. Why did he feel so nervous? And why did he still feel like he needed to apologize every time he saw his mother?
And why did he agree to dinner with the Walkers?
He leaned forward, adjusting his collar in the mirror. He looked fine, he knew. He looked like a happily married, young, successful adult. But he didn’t feel like it. He heard a noise and glanced to the bedroom doorway. Kevin was leaning against the frame, arms crossed and a small smile on his face.
"You look good."
"Thanks," Scotty said distractedly.
Kevin pushed off the doorframe and walked closer to Scotty. He reached up, fiddling with the collar and brushing his hand across Scotty’s shoulder.
"Really, really good," Kevin muttered.
"Kevin, come on."
"What? I won’t be able to touch you for the rest of the night, right? At least let me kiss you now."
Scotty rolled his eyes in frustrated amusement. "They’re going to be here any minute."
Kevin leaned in. Lips millimeters from Scotty’s, he murmured, "It’s rush hour."
The recent problems with their schedules - and the rare appointment sex - meant that Scotty had absolutely no willpower left. As soon as Kevin closed the distance between them, Scotty moaned and deepened the kiss. Before he knew it, he had Kevin pressed back into the wall. One hand was buried in Kevin’s hair, the other was flat against the wall behind him. Kevin slid his hands down the back of Scotty’s pants, forcing him closer. Scotty rolled his hips slowly, pressing his growing erection into Kevin’s thigh.
It was only the knock on the door that brought him out of his haze of lust.
Scotty pulled back immediately. "Oh my God, that’s them."
"Don’t panic," Kevin said, pushing Scotty further away from him. He stepped around to check his reflection. "I’ll get it. Just fix yourself up and calm down."
Kevin paused in the doorway and turned to face Scotty. "You might want to untuck your shirt."
"I hate you," Scotty said as he turned back to the mirror. His lips were a little swollen but not too badly, and his hair was manageable. He took several deep breaths, trying to calm down, but it wasn’t working. He tried to decide if going out there with an untucked shirt and getting scolded for being sloppy was worse than going out there half-hard. He could hear overly enthusiastic voices as Kevin greeted his parents. Scotty sighed, closed his eyes briefly for strength, untucked his shirt, and went into the living room.

With every step up the front drive, Scotty became increasingly nervous. He loved the Walkers, but he’d be the first to admit that dining with them was an...experience. Most of the time, he found himself perversely amused by the chaos. Sometimes, there were legitimate reasons for the fights and fall-outs, and during those times, he tried to support Kevin or at least remain quiet. And other times, he retreated into the kitchen, making up an excuse about food or wine or something, anything to get out of the room.
But the point was, he was used to them. He’d seen the Walkers at their best and so could overlook the times they were at their worst. And he loved them, if for no other reason than they made Kevin who he was and accepted Scotty into their family. But he was still terrified about that night and the impression they would make on his own family. And vice versa.
Kevin opened the front door and gestured for the rest of them to enter. Scotty followed his parents inside, offering Kevin a quick smile as he passed him. Kevin glanced ahead at Scotty’s parents, who were facing the other direction, and then quickly ran a hand down Scotty’s arm in support.
"Make yourselves comfortable," Kevin said as he closed the door and stepped further into the foyer. "Let me just - hello?" he called out.
And suddenly there was clatter as Walkers appeared from various corners of the house. Sarah was the first one to arrive, followed by Justin, Paige and Cooper.
"Walter, Bertha, this is my sister Sarah and her kids, Paige and Cooper. My brother Justin." Everyone shook hands as Kevin glanced around, looking for their secret weapons. "Where are Kitty and Robert?"
"Oh, they should be here soon. Traveling with a baby, you know," Sarah answered.
Scotty’s mom laughed. "I remember those days. I can’t wait to see their baby. I’m sure they’re wonderful parents. They’re such a lovely couple."
There was a moment of silence as Scotty, Kevin and the others looked at each other, trying not to accidentally reveal the recent difficulties Kitty had had with Robert. Finally, Justin jumped into the conversation, offering to fetch drinks. But it was at that moment that Nora entered from the kitchen.
"Oh, hello! Sorry, sorry. I had my hands full. It’s so nice to meet you. I’m Nora, Kevin’s mother."
Scotty couldn’t help but smile at the warmth and enthusiasm in her greeting. Maybe the evening would go fine, after all.
