I'm.... stunned. Literally stunned by "The Beast Below". Not since "Dalek" I think have we seen such great tension between the Doctor and companion as they stand on two sides of a moral quandry. I agree with pretty much everything you said here.
"But she's gotten it all in a nutshell, very old, very lonely, very kind, cannot stand to see children cry. It's simple, it's magical and it's the Doctor. I love it. I love Moffat for boiling down five years of hyperbole about Lonely Gods and Oncoming Storms into just an old man with a sweet heart. "
I think this is what I loved the most about this episode and about how the new team is writing this show. I loved it! So much!
That ending was so sweet and so full of meaning I nearly cried...

I'm just so enjoying the show in a way I haven't since at least 2007. Eleven and Amy are going to break my heart, I can feel it! If Moffat throws us any sad endings I'll be a goner!
