I'm talking about cause and affect: winners win losers lose. When a person's nature changes to that of a winner e.g. they get some balls... sense of commitment and passion for followthrough... and habit of focusing on what they can control... then they will become a winner; thus win.
xkcd is talking about creating/joining a club... to be snarky about pointless clubs. There's a kind of pathetic irony there. I marvel at the dude's intellect; but it's marred by his bitter elitism; or maybe I'm just projecting.
