I hadn't planned on seeing Sherlock Holmes, but now you've got me super curious. I may just have to give it a look.
Also, I know I'm new to your flist, but I'm sorry about your friend! *hugs* I know how hard it is to let someone go and try to be upbeat and happy for them. :)
You should definitely give Sherlock Holmes a try; I had expected it to be pretty good but it really surprised me how awesome it was and how much I loved it. His relationship with Watson in any context is just SO well done altogether.
Thank you, *hugs* Yeah, she's been in the Navy for about 3 years now but it still doesn't really get any easier watching her go. :/
*nods* I have friends like that. it's good that you guys can just pick right up where you left off, but I totally get how hard it is when they go. one of my best friends (she's practically a sister) lives in New Zealand now, & that makes everything tricky. I'm going down for a visit at the end of January, but even calling her is hard w/ my working nights & the time difference.
as much as it sucks that you can't have a lazy friendship (& I don't mean that in a negative way at all), the time that is spent together or on the phone makes the bond that much stronger. it'll suck & you'll miss her like crazy, sure, but I guess that's just the way it has to be. either the friendship means enough to keep it going long-distance, or it's not. & I can tell just by reading this post that it totally is. even w/ the significant other issue.
anyway, I'm glad you had a good holiday! Sherlock Holmes does look very interesting... & now you've piqued my interest even more. :D
It's always rough when they live so far away, :/ And especially with the time difference, like you said. With her being over in Japan and me being on the US east coast it's rough cause there's something like a 12 hour time difference...I can never remember exactly what it is, but we still try to talk on the phone whenever we can at whatever weird hours we can catch, which still ends up being only a few nights in one week every three months or so because they're out to sea so much she's hardly ever in Japan to use her phone. But, overall it's worked out better than I feared it would...everything between us is still the same, and we really are lucky to be able to just pick it back up like that. And you're right, after the past three years of her being over there, I think it really has made us stronger cause if we're still this close after all of this, that says alot
( ... )
I've always wanted to read the books/short stories, they're just one of those things on my very looong 'to read' list that I haven't gotten to, but I'm kind of glad that I saw the movie without pretty much any prior knowledge, cause I know how hard that is, going in to see something that you already know and love.
That's interesting to know, though, that she was never really a love interest...guess that's how Hollywood is, though, there's always gotta be a love interest, even if it's someone it wasn't meant to be, XD
But yeah, I loved it and I really hope they make a sequel too. ^^ I really am gonna have to get around to reading those books...
