The word "the" has become a word that we English speaking folk have become way to dependant on. If it were not there, now I mean completely gone, It wouldnt be a complete travesty:

Instead of "I found the battery that fits" It would be: "I found a battery that fits" OR "It that the Nsync CD?" it would be: "Is that an NSync CD?"

See, Totally replacable.
