The Baltimore Museum of Art, the Antioch Court, Sunday evening

Jan 01, 2017 21:19

Evening, and a small group of people had gathered in the Antioch Court of the Baltimore Museum of Art. Flowers decorated the edges of the gallery, and the reception was already set up downstairs.

...if this didn't come off, Parker was so leaving with souvenirs.

Someone's starting up a wedding march.

"You ready to do this?"

"More than," Sophie drawled, turning her eyes forward. "Last chance to call the whole thing off."

Not that she really thought he would. And not that he wouldn't get hit with a bouquet in the face if he did. But never say she didn't give him one last exit strategy.

"I wouldn't dare," Nate told her. He had no desire to get a bouquet to the face. Or a punch from Eliot. Or piles of porn from Hardison. Or whatever creative, batshit insane revenge Parker would go for, for ruining her perfect wedding job.

Plus, you know, he actually wanted to do this.

"I love you, you know."

An of course you do got caught in Sophie's throat. Really, who knew she was sensitive to the flower bouquet pollen?

She gave him her best Mona Lisa smile and said, "I know. And - I trust you."

Which was even more important than loving him, because she'd loved him for ages.

"Shall we?"

The Justice of the Peace cleared his throat significantly.

Hardison wasn't worried. Why should Hardison be worried? It wasn't his wedding after all. He just had to walk Sophie down the aisle and then stand to the side (or, wait, did he sit down? Nobody had made that clear to him!) before lining his tux pockets with hors d'oeuvres. Totally normal, he'd done this a hundred times for a con.

...The fact that this wasn't a con was making him sweat a little.

Eliot leaned over from where he was waiting with Tara. "Stop fussin' with your cufflinks, man."

This was what happened when you skipped the rehearsal dinner.

"I ain't," Hardison grumbled, dropping his hands and shoving them into the foil-lined pockets of his tux. "Just wanted to make sure they were fastened right."

AKA the definition of 'fussing'

"They're fine," Eliot assured him. "No one's gonna be lookin' at you, anyway."

No one but him and Parker. Sophie looked stunning in her dress, but let's be real.

"An' here I went all out to make sure Sterling's suspicious glances got me at my best," Hardison said, pretending to be disappointed. "Guess I'll have to step up my game at the next weddin' we steal."

"Next one bein' ours, I'm guessin'." The fact that Eliot managed to say that casually was a true testament to just how much he'd grown in the nearly two years the three of them had been together. "Unless you're plannin' to play marriage fairy-godfather to some of the students or somethin'."

Hardison was so surprised he choked on his inhale and started coughing. "Man, did you just casually reference gettin' married to us without immediately breakin' into a cold sweat an' checkin' for the nearest exits?"

Eliot rolled his eyes. "I'm a grown man, Hardison. I've faced down firing squads without breakin' into a sweat."

Which really just went to show just how many issues he'd had with commitment that marriage used to make him want to hide under a desk and hold his breath until it went away.

"Uh-huh, an' a year ago, you woulda said you'd've rather faced another firin' squad before even thinkin' about the m-word," Hardison said, because he'd met Eliot, thank you.

Guys, were you really going to bicker seconds before the ceremony was supposed to start? Really?

Well yeah. Someone would be checking them both for fevers or possession if they didn't. They were going to end up bickering at the altar of their own wedding someday.

"I wasn't that bad."

He really was.

Thank god Parker loved them enough to not strangle them.

"You were, too," Hardison informed him. "Pretty sure the real reason you kept them bear traps for so long was to make sure you had time to get away if the island started makin' everyone get all marriage-minded some weekend."
