"You could be good the whole time we're here in a public place and then...." George very deliberately let the sentence hang in the air. "Then, I think you would have earned that feast. Appetizers, entree and dessert...." George raised his eyebrows significantly.

The phrase repeated in his head. Playing daddy. What the hell did he know, a bloody snot-nosed kid still wet behind the ears? "Doesn't know a bloody thing, does he son?" Julian's hair, soft against John's face, was pleasantly soothing. Hugging his son to him he tried to cast aside memories of the unease the boy had displayed all day, less convinced now that this environment would bring him out of his shell but unwilling to admit it.
