Extension: Challenge 10

Aug 22, 2011 00:12

Since less than half of the remaining participants have entered Challenge 10, I'm extending it another week, to next Sunday (August 28) at midnight (EST).

If you've already entered icons, you're totally free to edit them if you like. Just edit your original comment, or delete it and make a new one.

r4c10, extension, round four

How long will voting last?
I'm going on holiday that week and so won't be able to vote until the Saturday (September 4th)

You did this with an earlier challenge and I held my tongue then, but I can't any more.

This is unfair to the people who did work hard to make the deadline.

I'm not the best icon maker; I know that, I'm fine with it, I do it because the challenge is fun, but if the rules suddenly change then it's not fun any more.

I'm not changing any rules. It's difficult to hold voting when there are only so many icons entered. Challenges get extended all the time because of lack of entries, not just here, but at a lot of icontests.

I'm not changing any rules.

I just took a second look at the user profile and the !mod post tag and while it does touch on participants missing the deadline and the responsibility of voting there is no mention about extensions to the deadline.

-You MUST submit an icon for the first challenge of each round or you'll be disqualified.
-After the first challenge, you can miss challenges, but if you miss three in a row you'll be disqualified.
-If you enter an icon in a challenge, you must vote. If you have the time to make an icon, you have the time to vote. A consistent lack of voting may result in disqualification.
-Everyone can vote so long as they have an LJ, regardless of whether you're a member or participating in the round. Anonymous votes will not be counted.
-Do not vote for yourself.
-You can ask your friends to vote, and are encouraged to do so, but do not tell them to vote for you.

Anyone who did enter an icon must vote and can ask others to vote, so I fail to see how It's difficult to hold voting. If there's something I'm ( ... )

How is this favoritism? Who am I favoring? There is nothing that says I cannot extend a challenge if I feel there are not enough entries.

What are the requirements for "enough entries"?

It depends on the challenge, and part of it is number of participants entering. I like to have at least half of those still signed up to enter each challenge, and I didn't have that with this challenge, hence the extension. I have extended challenges before, I don't understand why this is such a big deal now.

But there is nothing in the rules that states that, no mention of extensions at all.

It's your comm and you can run it however you want, I would just like consistent and understandable handling.

What I've understood from this exchange as that it is on your whim and you feeling of "enough entries" if there is an extension, even though there is no mention of one in the rules.

I'm sorry for not outlining every single facet to running this comm in the rules. Extensions are not "the norm", and believe it or not, I don't enjoy having to set them. But sometimes they become necessary. I would've assumed extensions to be viewed as a normal part of an icontest, and didn't feel it was worth mentioning that every so often, extensions may be necessary. I'm sorry if you disagree, but there's no point in arguing with me about it now. I'm not going to suddenly close submissions after I said I was extending them
