Rare Ships Month: Martha Jones/Tom Milligan.
When I saw that this community was holding a 'Rare Ships Month' I immediately skimmed down the list of already claimed pairings to see if Martha/Tom had already been taken. I was slightly disappointed, but not surprised that they weren't. So despite not exactly being the most prolific fic writer, I decided I would do my part.
I really liked the Martha/Tom dynamic from the start. Even though they were both focused on the task in hand in 'Last of the Time Lords', I felt that there was a chemistry bubbling away under the surface. Martha is not only one of my favourite companions of all time, but one of my favourite characters period. So for me to ship her with someone, they'd have to be something special, and I think Tom showed wonderful potential. Not only as an intellectual equal, but equal to her bravery and generous spirit too.
He used his position as a doctor to help the Resistance when The Master had taken over, and ultimately died so that Martha could live, and finish her mission; so that's the 'bravery' box well and truly ticked. When we see Martha again in 'The Sontaran Strategem', she says (I don't remember the exact quote) that her fiance is working in Africa, which strongly implies that he is still going the extra mile to help humanity, that it wasn't just the circumstances of LotTL that caused him to act the way he did. I sincerely hope that, if Tom is brought back, the writers allow him to be as awesome as his potential showed he could be, at the very least Martha deserves that.
Plus, I also strongly approve of hot people getting it on.
I hope that sums it up adequately, apologies if it doesn't (articulating myself isn't always a strong point).
