What about using bigger needles so the fabric is less dense? I get what you're saying, that yarn is pretty thick. If you're looking for something cheap though that might be a little thinner check out knitpicks.com, they've got some nice wool that's a little thinner and like 1.99 a skein.

I just bought the Palette Samplers from Knitpicks. The yarn and colors are really nice, and fingering weight is great for a light sweater. The swatch I did on sevens is about 20 stitches in the 4", but is a bit loose. It's also a bit splitty for knitting, but it still looks really good!

Which brands of yarn are included in the Palette sampler?

Pallet is the stile of Knitpick's own stuff.

They look like they are going to be good for fine stuff and color work.

It's easier to take pictures of yarnwork if you do it in the sunlight, because the the camera flash doesn't drown out all the texture.

This. I've noticed that if I turn my camera settings to snow, it picks up detail in white yarn better as well.

I will try this, thank you. These pictures are horrible. *sweatdrop*

Unfortunatly, it means I have to wait for the sun to come out!

(you also both have very similar user pics...)

Hm. My sister's bookshop has really good lighting that makes for great pictures; I'm not sure if it's the placement of the lights or the combination of halogen and flourescent bulbs.

I chose my userpic intentionally. :)
