Did I update last week? I don't remember. But my friend ellen_fremedon's birthday was last Tuesday, and I had one sock done and the other about 2/3. So I wrapped up the one and gave it to her at dinner, and she liked it very much:
Since you bring it up: I should note that on camera (and esp against the dark background I have here), the colors look quite a lot brighter than they do in real life. In truth, the yellow is a little mustardier, the green a little browner, the purple quite a lot purpler (i.e. not as blue), and the red ... not that the red isn't the brightest of the lot by a long way, but it's a sort of cool orangey-red autumn color, if you see what I mean. Here it really does look almost pink.
If I were doing this again (and someone didn't, you know, medicate me out of it), I'd try to find an orangier red and a winier purple; but failing that, I'm pleased with these. :-)
I followed the advice of the inestimable Yarn Harlot when she published a sock pattern in Knitty lo, these many years ago: 2] Knit in the ends as you go. Very elegant, tidy, and good practice. Break the yarn for the color you just finished, and as you knit hold the end up for one stitch, [so your working yarn goes under the end] then hold it down for the next stitch, so your working yarn goes over the end. Weaving it up and down for about 12 sts is good. You can cut the rest off. Try a search on "knitting in ends" if you still don't get it. In short: yes, I wove them in behind, and they run exactly parallel with the knitting, and it's the best method ever. I can't think why I've ever done anything else.

BTW how did you knit your ends in? Just weaving them in behind?
