The Five-centric Round Seven is still in progress, but we need to press on with this Game of ( Read more... )

And I'm going to add another one to the growing backlog by putting myself down to this one. I think it will be a two birds/one stone affair, or to be more precise, it's been a long, long while since I committed shameless, self-indulgent Four/Romana fluffiness...

Okay, I'll likely fail at this (yes, I owe 5th on the 20th and I'm STILL SWEATING), but go ahead and put me down for the 20th again.

*headdesk*

This sounds really interesting. So, any kind of fan work is allowed? Four is MY Doctor so I might have to sit down and come up with something. Maybe even a second item for the Companions theme (since I'm so fired up on the Jamie wagon right now!)

Not sure of a date, though, early August is going to be hella insane for me so I have no idea when I'll have a chance to get anything done.

Absolutely ANY kind of fanwork is more than welcome. Including new forms you invent yourself, I would say. :) I will put you down on the "no specific date" list as you have expressed an interest and, well, if you don't make August, better late than never...! Four and/or Jamie works sound good to me - I will look forward to whatever you come up with.

Damn. This is Master levels of hubris given the state of my last two sign-ups for this fest but BRING ON THE 26th AGAIN.

(Also, it's always struck me that Tennant and Baker-the-first have a nearly identical stare with the slightly askew bulging eyes and the sort of crooked nose... or is that just me?)

I had it reserved for you...! ;D Overweening hubris - the cause of and solution to many of life's problems...

I think the resemblances are definitely there, both in general demeanour and the eye-bulging thing and in various aspects of the actors' performances. There are also definitely a lot of differences, mind you. The two of them are sort of linked in my mind, though, because although it's early days for NuWho I already think of Ten, rightly or wrongly, as the "Four" of it - the one the casual viewers will instantly think of and who will continue to top all the fan polls and everything forever and ever with only whoever the incumbent is standing a chance against him (although possibly Four is no longer as dominant as he once was in that respect, with a lot of new series fans discovering the old and liking all sorts of Doctors like Three and Seven who have gone through "unfashionable" phases). I still can't help thinking of the pair of them in those terms, though. ;)

I actually find that Eleven seems to have 'displaced' Four in the minds of several Classic Who fans (nobody in this thread btw). It makes me all *sadface* :( Not because of Eleven himself but because... FOUR DAMMIT. ;D

I think when it comes to these sorts of popularity considerations, though, the current Doctor doesn't really count - just being the Doctor of the moment gives whichever one it is a big boost in terms of recognition and popularity. It is true, though, that Eleven seems to have a lot of cross-over appeal with old series fans that Ten, say, didn't. I mean, I am one of those old series fans, I would say. Ten, though, retains a lot of loyalty from the mostly-new-series fanbase. So...I would say wait a few years after Eleven has gone to see where the ratings stand, but I would never, ever bet against Four in future fan polls. Time will tell in the end, I suppose.
