Twenty years ago today. :(

Over on the Dreamwidth version of the comm, swordznsorcery has shared this excellent tribute:

"Today marks the 20th anniversary of the day that Jon Pertwee died. Death anniversaries are not the cheeriest of things, I know, but it is the 20th. So I went hunting on YouTube for something, and found this:

Excellent! Thank you for that! I always loved the 3rd Doctor, he had such heart.

Before Netflix lost their license to show Doctor Who they had a few of Pertwee's stories on there (actually they had episodes of all the classic Doctors...except Colin Baker). I really enjoyed them and would love to see more, especially ones with him and Sarah Jane. He was very dashing, charming and had a wonderful wry sense of humor. And let's not forget he was a master of Venusian Aikido. :)

Yeah. Here in Italy, I did'nt got the chance to even see them. They only had NuWho and now they only have Eleven onwards as far as I know.

He's not my Doctor - too much like James Bond for my taste - but Jon Pertwee did an amazing performance, it has to be said. He's completely owned the role and I'm sure was one of reasons why the series was still entertaining, despite the TARDIS being immobilized for most of his time. I loved his interactions with the Brigadier and with the Master - it was interesting to watch since I only knew Simm's Master by then. Jo Grant has also a special place in my heart :) The Doctor's connection to Earth and humans has been truly developed then, and characters and relationships is what I look for in Doctor Who, not empty plots. So, cheers for the Third Doctor and his five year era!

What amuses me is that I was familiar with Anthony Ainley's Master first, but he was such a terrible ham (who apparently didn't even want to know anything about how Delgado had played the Master as not actually ragingly insane), Delgado's menacing dignity grabbed me very hard indeed. So, he's my Master. (Simm? Yeah, a cannibal who hears drums driving him insane. Very good, RTD.)

Thank you, thank you for this!!

He was one of my first Doctors! Always will have special love for him...and it is a treat to see his grandson working these days. So much alike in the face and yet such differing roles!

*HUGS*

Aw, yes. RIP, Jon Pertwee! He's not my favourite Doctor, but he's still the only Doctor who's died while I've been a fan, and it turns out it doesn't matter about favourites, only the Doctor part.

(I remember this, because I was at uni, in the small computer room over on the Llanbadarn campus and the person at the computer next to me took off his headphones and swore and said, "Jon Pertwee's dead!" And I used the power of the (much slower) internet (Netscape!) to see that it was true and packed up my work and went home, because.)

That's a very good vid. *salutes*
