Ok. Got my books in today for this term of online classes for my Bachelors in Paralegal Science. I'm still wondering why I have to take Statistics, but I'll lump it. Just scared. Last time I took a math class was back when I was going to Hill for my Associates. All these funny symbols scare me. Aaaand I have no clue as to how I'm going to "show my ( Read more... )

Funny thing, the example I started class with today kinda answers your question. Let's suppose a person fails a drug test, like say, that guy who won the Tour de France last year and is still in litigation about it. Turns out that under most circumstances - the probability that a person who flunks a drug test actually did drugs is around 50%.

If you're talking about the E that I think you're talking about, it's the "expected value" otherwise known as the mean or average.

As far as showing your work, Word has a little feature so that you can enter equations into the document. I think it's under "Insert -> Formula" or maybe something like "Insert -> Object -> Equation" They've probably moved the menus around since the last time I used Word, but I promise that the feature is there.

Gimme a little bit to get them together and I'll send you some recipes.
And just remember, Texas is not all bad, the bluebonnets more than make up for most of the crap entailed with living in the state.

Ask your prof about what kind of calculator he'll allow, or that you'll need. My students can use whatever they have, but some profs want everybody to have the same calculator.

I am sure you'll do fine. And it's not like you don't have access to grade-A outside resources ;)

I'll send you an email. In the mean time, you may want to re-think the wisdom of posting your # where anybody and everybody can read it.

Talk to you later, I'm going to bed.
