I doubt I'll ever have a love-at-first-sight crush as strong as I had for young Nick Wilde, but little Zabivaka here has come awfully close!

Don't go supporting the Russian soccer team now just because of their mascot. ;)

USA, USA, USA! I believe that we will win! Christian Pulisic is the USMNT's future! They better get past the round of 16 this time..... what? It's soccer-related! :)

I take it the title is "Hello Zabivaka" in Russian? :S

'Волк' is 'wolf'. :-) I don't know Russian, but I think his full name translates as something like 'Little Tough-Guy Wolf'.

Maybe he won't dive (where a player falls to the ground acting like they're injured when no one even touched them or at least barely did). Not naming names on which players do that but it frequently happens with the top 2 Spanish teams. ;)

'В' is V, 'o' is O, 'л' is L, 'к' is K = Volk. :-) I don't speak Russian, but I do know the Cyrillic alphabet. (I used to use it as a code for writing notes in grade school.) ^^

Yeah, apparently there were three candidates for mascot, and the wolf won with 53% of the votes.

I've seen that character on the furry sites I look at for some time now. I didn't know what the heck the Russia 2018 stuff meant. Not until today with more context. :) When 2018 it will still be unseen by me as I don't follow any sports.

And damn! Those furries do ruin everything! :sigh:

Yep, the R34 has begun! I haven't seen any yet that tickles my fancy *cough* ;) but he's only been in existence a few days.

Oh, nice! But then, the Russian mascot designers do tend to do a really nice job - just look at their previous Olympics and similar, eg Sochi. ^_^ (Then compare to what London offered up for their Olympics.. eeg! Definite case of "Design by Committee" there)

*nodnods* Most sport mascots are ghastly - at least the international ones are. But yeah, Мишка, the Moscow 1980 mascot was super cute, though my all-time fave remains Sam the Olympic Eagle from Los Angeles 1984. Sam was actually pretty instrumental in bringing me out of the furry closet way back when, though I wouldn't emerge fully until Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out some years later.

He looks more like a husky than a wolf to me, but he's cute enough. Not my favorite of the mascots but its alot better looking than that cheetah with the green hair that people went nuts for for some reason.

My favorite Olympic Mascots were the 2010 winter game characters personally. ^^

Yes, he does have husky aspects in his design. Maybe he's actually a wolf hybrid. ;)
