This is fantastic! I love your writing; it's so detailed and beautiful. And I can definitely see your interest in history very clearly-we're going over this in AP European History and I love the constant connections with history (to be quite honest, it excites the history nerd inside!), especially the parts with Frederick the Great and Voltaire and everything. :)

Purple prose, more like, but I am glad it is received so well!

I'm very fond of cultural history as well as the usual business of wars and marriages and alliances. Unfortunately, I did fudge some events a little, as well as made some improbable jumps. ^^; But this is steampunk and artistic license is allowed, if not encouraged.

Thank you.

This was a wonderful read! I love historical fictions, and your characterization was great as well! Very well-researched and very descriptive!

Thank you!

It's only with a nodding acquaintance to history. But that's steampunk, for you. Do the research and throw most of it out the figurative window.

Happiness meter +100

Backstory! Gotta love some backstory in here <3 Alana in her globetrotting upbringing, learning everything a proper young lady shouldn't, and killing tigers to boot! And Gilbert starting his way as the lowest and the low and making his way up, the bits with him and Old Fritz are my favourites in this pieces definately.

And was that some fem!France I spied in there? Having as a stepmother speaks of some kinda fairytale cruelty for Alana, lol.

I've been plotting it for a while but I have to say that you sort of inspired me to put it really into gear. Would you mind this as a humble surprise Christmas present ( ... )

I most definately would not :D ♥

Haha, "Here is this child, what do we do with it? SCIENCE!"

Great side-characters really make the main ones come alive so much more znd you can definately see it here. The differences and simiralities between Gilbert and Alana's upbringing, you can see why they get along in the peculiar way they do XD

lol, I think when you read fics like this, it's instinct to look for whatever canon characters that might appear. It's an amusing idea still.

Good. ^^; I'm not sure of the etiquette of gifting fics.

Luckily Alana was a pretty bright child, otherwise she would have gone crazy with the regimen they put her through. She did teach herself German for the fun of it, on the other hand...

That really is the entertaining part, figuring out what would influence people and make them turn out a certain way. Gilbert's Catholicism and Alana's mechanical skills were the tricky parts.

True, true, because authors are sneaky bastards.

Backstories! 8D I love this universe, and you are so good with these fics. Very well-researched, and your writing style is a joy to read. <3

The story flows really nicely and I loved reading your young!Gilbert, as well as Old Fritz and the religious parts. (Funny, religion is really self-contradicting. )

It is a logical step in an AU. xD

Young Gilbert is an absolute terror; you want to hug him and kick his annoying little butt at the same time.

Thank you.

Your writing is so engaging. I'm so fascinated with their backstories, and the bits with Gilbert and Old Fritz are very touching.

It was a fun endeavor, teasing out their backstories. I got to put in as much trauma and drama as I wished, no matter how much the character bitched. ^^; /will be murdered in sleep by Gilbert

There really is something powerful and fundamental about the relationship between a father and son, I think, especially when it changes someone like Gilbert so profoundly for the rest of his life.

Thank you!
