I-I make pysanky myself...so I understand most of the nuances in here [though some of these, my grandma says she didn't even know about!]...seriously, this is a beautiful story.

To be fair, I got the symbolism from Wikipedia... ^^;; Though I'm something of an armchair scholar of symbols (it's one of my many pet hobbies). I loved that book when I was a kid, because of the beautifully illustrated eggs (and I really, really wanted to try the cakes that Babushka made).
It's a batik style, which is basically painting the designs on the eggs with wax and dying them several times, though you can also scratch off the dye to create designs as well.
I was rather trying to get a happy, slightly story-tale esque effect too, like photographs or paintings.
