i explained this about 3 or four entries back but here you go.

this is a recriuitment poster for the volunteer legion niederlande, a 2,600 man regiment and component of the 2nd ss brigade on the leningrad front. "niederlande" as it is referred to swiftly obtained a reputation for valor and achievement. in 1942, legionaires succeeded in capturing the commander of the 11th soviet army and 3,500 of his soldiers. one enlisted man, sturmann gerardus mooyman, became the first west european volunteer to receive the knight's cross decoration after singlehandedly destroying 14 soviet tanks in one day in february 1943. the legion later formed the basis for the "nederland" brigade and division.

You know I'm the last person you need to tell about how aesthetics can be divorced from context, meaning, etc. reappropriated and fetishized without necessarily retaining stigmas and other associations.&I suppose that I'm a postmodernist in that sense... & I'd be a liar if i wasnt attracted to similar aesthetics. however ours is certainly not a consensus view, and LiveJournal is a public forum. Funny I was in Nederland Colorado on Saturday for Coffin Races(see Frozen Dead Guy Days) and they had nothing to do with NAZI'S but alot to do with funnay ass people dressed for dead and racing cardboard and wooden coffins;)
