And still it's close enough to the original to make this really "deviant art". :D ;)
LOLOL, wonderful! :D

And yes, Depp is indeed a vast improvement on the original. :D Too bad he couldn't model for Duerer. eh? :D

Thanks, Illyria!
Dürer had an interesting face with intense eyes, but Mr. Depp has the better look in the end, lol. Johnny would have been THE model of the Renaissance painters, that's for sure!

Helloooo, Siriuss! Thanks for your comment!

I'm okay, thanks for asking. I've been a bit under the weather lately, admittedly (maybe a slight autumn depression), but nothing worse than the usual ups and downs. Deppisation of art is a very good cure for that. :-D

Ah, Whiteling, good work! Here's yet another era of costuming and hair that Mr. Depp would look good in. Perhaps he can find his way to appearing in something 16th century-ish? But I confess I prefer the original, which is one of my all-time favourite portraits. I even once had a crush on that picture, on the man in it. That was before I paid attention to the details about paintings; I didn't even know it was a self-portrait, lol. P.S. Thanks for linking such a big copy of it!!!!

Hi Mechtild, welcome back!

Yes, Mr. Depp looks very handsome in that costume and hair. So does Albrecht. :-D In fact, this Dürer self-portrait has been a favourite art work of mine for ages too (it still is, of course). I've seen the painting in person in Munich and it has an impressive effect on the viewer, with all the detail and the intensity of Dürer's glance. Did you know that he obviously displayed himself as a Christ-figure - the hair, the beard, the frontal view? All these elements in art were only attributed to Christ until a certain A.D. took the plunge to display a mere mortal in that way. Stunning.

(The Christ connotation made me think of putting Johnny's face in the painting, since in the film "The Brave" which he directed in 1997, he shows his protagonist Raphael [played by him] in some Christ-like images; I was quite flabbergasted to find such imagery in a Depp film.)

No, I didn't know the resemblance in Durer's portrait [to Christ] was intentional. It's there, of course, and I'd thought what a great image for it made. I have not heard of "The Brave". I'll have to look it up. :)
