Ah! I really enjoyed this movie. But I never really understood what was Sophie's problem. Did she just not find herself attractive? Or had low self-esteem or what? I don't think that's very clear in the movie... or maybe it's open to interpretation. :3

:D

I dunno, I didn't notice an exact explanation either.

Here's my guess though: Looking at her mother and sister, they're flamboyantly beautiful and match the stereotypical standard of beauty by the society they live in. Since that's what Sophie probably judges herself against (subconsciously, I'm guessing) and she obviously doesn't look like they do, she then quietly concludes that she's not beautiful.

It may be a self-esteem issue, but I didn't get too much of that from her. She did seem a bit sad about it when she first met Howl, but she seemed pretty accepting of her situation (as she perceived it to be).

I thought it was him but had to double-check in the English credits to be sure. And it is. ;)

I know right? Though in a different scene the heart part was buried under all the ashes, so perhaps it was cushioned there.

Who knows. I mean she didn't do it on purpose. It's not like she knew lol.
