I am so pleased to hear this! I was considering trimming this chapter drastically until it was only a few thousand words long (it's something like 12k as it stands), on the grounds that Nobody Wants To Hear About Casanova (Or 18C Venice), so I'm glad it works for you! :)
I was very skeptical of this at first, and almost wanted to skip it (I am not a big 1st person POV type of gal), but once it got going I couldn't stop. I love your voice for Casanova in (I admit, I haven't read anything of his, but regardless, I like your narrative), and him and Gabriel do sound like they'd make quite a pair terrorizing the 18th C world LOL.
Oh, they totally would. They would be terrifying. And rewrite most of history. :)
I'm not very fond of first person either, but as I was imitating (and frequently quoting or paraphrasing) Casanova's memoirs, it was kind of unavoidable. And he is a great deal of fun. You're never quite sure when he's revising his own memories, or possibly just deliberately pulling your leg.

Gosh. I didn't know I wanted Casanova/Gabriel until I wanted it.
