Have a Jelly Baby

So I have an admission to make, I didn't watch Doctor Who when I was a kid because I really did hide behind the sofa. Not at the show, but at the closing credits. I don't even really know which era it was, but I remember there was a POV of spinning through space with stars and other asterological *things* flying past the camera. It freaked me the ( Read more... )

Hee! I haven't gotten to see any of the Leela episodes yet - I've seen vids and read fic around her character though so I can't wait to actually get to meet her in canon!

There was SPN wank? I missed wank. Guess the fandom's still going through that difficult puberty stage then!

It's funny wank.

You'll found out why when you see the next episode. :D

Ooo - now I'm all intrigued! You're trying to convince me to spoil myself for the episode aren't you?

:p

Woohoo!! Waves from the corner. You're ahead of me in SPN, Leverage - I must try and watch and catch up.

I think Dollhouse is improving every episode. Don't know if it will get a pick up next season.

Anyhoo I sent you a mail. And Leverage - Lev as in Left, that's how I'd say it.

*grins*

Don't know if it will get a pick up next season.

It's on Fox. It's a Joss show. I hope it does but...

Got your mail - will reply as soon as I remember that my psychic email scheme still isn't up and running yet!

Dollhouse has me intellectually and has done since the beginning. I have not got that emotional connect yet, although I can feel the claws starting to dig in. I think they’re doing something quite clever to address the identification issue in the last few episodes, which subverts the whole I cannot identify with Echo complaint. I’m not entirely sure it’s intentional.

I still think some of the acting is slightly off, mainly Fran Kranz and Dichen who is better than I expected her to be. It’s definitely the most challenging and adult of all Joss’ shows and I can only applaud the attempt to do something different.

I like the lack of identification with the 'lead' characters actually. It lends a whole new means of 'reading' a TV show. (I may be regressing back to my textual analysis days there - sorry about that!)

I'm definitely going to keep watching - and like I said in the post - it gets better, in fact each new episode adds a new layer to it which is intriguing to me.

I tried watching it. Didn't like it.

IMO, Whedon is going for the "smart" without passing through the entertaining.

I disliked Buffy S6, and found S7 just plain bad, but they were both attempts at being smart, doing more than just telling stories to entertain.

Dollhouse, for me, is a similar attempt at being smart. With characters I don't care about. Or characters I think should be shot.

And I just don't trust Whedon's storytelling abilities to make it a story I care about, other than in a sense of "this disturbs me, I'm going to go watch some other show".
