Just curious, though I know not many people read this thing...

Do you believe in God or more generally do you have faith?
Why?

I'm really interested in people's reasons for or against faith. Taking a Philosophy class, sorry ;P

First off, what's the question?

Faith in God, faith in Humanity, what?

Secondly, almost all philosophy majors and professors are capable of making stupid and/or pointless ideas sound like they make sense.

I had one try to explain to me that our idea of a chair came from a "universal idea" of a chair, and that's why everyone thinks of a similar thing when they think of a chair. But, even if there was this "universal idea", what the hell is the point?

It reminds me of my crackpot uncle in a way. A lot of the stuff he says sounds true, but there's really no way to prove it.

Hmmm... The answer to this question is never simple. I, plain and simple, do not know. My beliefs allow for the possible existence of a God, but no requirement for it. I know we all determine our own destinies, and we are responsible for how our lives turn out. To clarify, when I say a God, I do not imply a Christian God or a Muslim God, simply a deity. In all honesty, I find the world to be in far too sorry of a state for belief in a kind, Christian God. If there is a God, I think we are more of a source of entertainment than children to it. People who deserve things rarely get them, and when they do it changes them so profoundly that they become someone who doesn't really deserve it any more. Not all the time, just commonly. Alot of people believe things because they want to or need to. I don't need to, but I am also not so arrogant as to deny the slightest possibilty of it. So there is my twisted, strange belief system in summary.

You have to remember that the Christian God also allows free will. By his own rules he can't interfere with that.
