I'm back at work, after ignoring it for the last three days. I didn't go on Monday and Tuesday because I was investing in my depression , and yesterday it was my darling sis's birthday, so I took the day off (again), and we went to Haifa and had a wonderful, beautiful day with our friend Barak, and later on was joined by Ofir. And we went to all ( Read more... )

Actually, there is one great solution to the bug problem. p_lea May 31 2007, 09:15:44 UTC
And it's permanent and not stinky and doesn't require you to move.
It's called a cat. :) They play with the roach to death, than you swoop it out. Very sterile.

Hope you feel better, girl. :(

I thought about the advantages of cats re: roaches, but unfortunately, if I had to watch (or even be aware of) a cat playing with a roach all over my floor, with bits falling out.... eeeeewwwwww! I wanna puke just thinking about it.
So... no.

well...the day spent with your sister sounds much better than the days spent home working on the depression!

you *rolled up* and buffy fanzine and used it to kill a bug??!!

that's what shoes are for!

as for the impending march of the roaches? the best thing you can do right know is get some caulk and start plugging up every crevice, nook and cranny you can see. weather strip the doors and windows too.
because once they're in? oy! moving really will seem the best option!

Killing bugs with shoes = bad, because after the killing I have to get rid of the murder weapon. so I can't use shoes, only disposable things. This time I had no choice but to use the fanzine, and I wasn't happy about it, but in the battle between good and evil some sacrifices must be made. I'm sure Buffy would agree.

Re: closing up all the crevices - I'm totally on it! Ever since you wrote that, I keep noticing the multitude of places that those disgusting creatures can crawl in from! and I'll deal with it post-haste.

There are several ways to prevent roaches.

If you don't have any pets or children, sprinkle a bit of boric acid around the edges, especially inside cabinets. The crystals are like tiny knives to insects. However, boric acid is a poison, so it's not healthy for kids or pets.

If you see a bug, squirt it with alcohol (rubbing alcohol, not whiskey). The alcohol will both kill and sterilize it.

When I had an apartment in a city, I had roaches until the mice moved in. They ate the roaches. However, that probably isn't the solution you're looking for.

I'd take mice over roaches any day, except they'll eat my food... :)

Thanks for all the advice!
