Neil Gaiman was a Guest of Honor at one of our local conventions about two years ago. I didn't exchange more than a dozen or so words with him. But he was nice, and sweet. His main reason for coming was that his son wanted to attend. That and Terry Pratchett praised us to the highest degree :-)

Heh! This is why we work on cons. For the perks, like free tickets to see Gaiman ;)

Oh yeah. His convention liason is still in contact with him, and I've heard she's been able to read some of his stuff before it goes to print. That just rocks. Elizabeth Moon is coming to Michigan in January - I can't wait to meet her. I've been reading her for years.

Wow! I wonder if our convention liaison will still be in touch and get to read stuff! *mental note: be nicer to AstroNomi*

And who's Elizabethe Moon? I'm embarrassed to say I don't' know her...

I like this design. I mean, for something better than this, you're going to have to switch to Wordpress or something.

I can't think about anything but you when I see a Cup'o'Joe sign.

that's so sad, that this is the best one!

Actually, the one who won the Style Design Competition is very good, but all those styles come with stuff at the sidebar that I don't want, like the page summary and stuff, and you can't really customize it at all. Plus, it won first place so everyone will be using it... ;)

I can't believe I'm associated with that piece of design monstrosity! But of course, I totally brought this on myself.

The design looks okay, but I know whereof you speak with the "these all suck." As far as creating something and making it look exactly like you want it, that's hours and hours of CSS and I couldn't find my source code and gave up and am now living with a premade template and some of the bits I need to tweak, but I can at least tweak them now, because I have the code.

But to take your mind off it, yay for apartments! Yay for boyfriends! Woooo!

Aren't there communities who offer codes and stuff for lj? I'm sure there must be... maybe they can tweak it for me?
*sigh*
I'm probably too lazy to look, plus I feel I've wasted way too much time on this already, just today.

Re: yay for apartments! Yay for boyfriends! Woooo!
- Yes, it's true, yay for a kick-ass apartment!
And big yay for boyfriends in general, though in this case, we're not quite there yet :)

Yeah, my own LJ style is ugly as fuck, but I got lazy and just decided to leave it as is, and it fits my purposes for clean reading.

I'm pretty sure that they've made it so that you can do your own css overrides for every single style they have offered, so if you're comfortable with that you've got a lot to play with. You can change the widths and hide sections you don't like, and well, do pretty much anything to change the way your layout looks. You just need to learn css.

(My own is a whole new style written with s2, but that's because I wanted more than to just override the layout, I wanted to override how it works.)

But I don't know crap about CSS, and I can't see myself learning any time soon - not for the sake of a prettier lj, anyway :)

Can't I hire someone to do it???

You could probably find someone on your friends list willing to do it, if you can figure out exactly what you want.

(I'd offer myself, but I shouldn't even be reading LJ right now, never mind playing around with it.)

There are a couple of communities too, but I can't remember where they are or if they're decent.

Thanks for thinking of offering, anyway :)
You're sweet.

Maybe when the urge to change the design catches up whit me again, I'll look for proper communities and help.

Until then, I'm going with: whatever.

*But he was in the room and I was in the room, so it counts.

It totally does. Because otherwise I wouldn't have met Orson Scott Card or Bill Clinton, and that is just unacceptable.

By the way, I read in Time Out that you were showing a film at ICon! Was very sorry to miss it.

That's right, I totally met Paul Mccartney and David Bowie, and I dare anyone to deny it to my face.

Oh, we have a really great (well, I'm biased, but still) fan-movie called (roughly translated): "What's the deal with Buffy the Vampire Slayer". We had too screenings and it was very well received (everyone laughed their asses off!).
I'm sorry you missed it too, but I'm sure there will be more opportunities to see it, though. We're not done milking this baby ;)

and btw: the fanfiction workshop was on hiatus, but we're bringing it back. If you're interested I'll keep you informed.
