02. First John Mayer song you heard

Well, I think the first John Mayer song I heard was probably the same as most other people.
Your Body is a Wonderland.
"I'll never let your head hit the bed without my hand behind it." Ugh, can I tell you how obsessed I was with that line. In the days before Facebook status updates, that line used to make it into ( Read more... )

I gotta tell you...I never hated the song. I love it solo acoustic, or just John and Robbie and DRH. Stripped down and intimate, just as it should be. It's such a lovely sentiment - shouldn't every afternoon you spend with a lover feel like that?

Oh, and as for the video? The last 5-10 seconds get me every. damn. time. Watching that girl walk backward in the laundry lines as he approaches... then his hand on her waist, and the kiss, just as they disappear behind a big white sheet and the song fades out...

*guh*

I know JM has mentioned before that this song is kinda cringe worthy for him and I get that he'll sorta always be known as the "Wonderland Guy" but I can't help but feel anything but giddy and smiley when I hear it. You are right, every lazy afternoon with a lover should be exactly like that.

Where the video is concerned, ugh, the whole thing socks me in the gut time and time again. lol. Each and every frame. Isn't it like, the perfect fan fiction scene? LOL. The end is definitely a stomach butterfly enducer lol, but for me, it's always the bed scene. Lifting her hand close to face, his hand running over her hair, resting his forehead against hers, singing the words *thisclose* to her lips *Squeeee* I'd never let him out of those sheets. lol. ok, I'm done. I promise. Although now I have to go watch it again ;)

Thing is too, his voice has gotten SO much better since he first cut this...

This is the best version, IMO:

He retired it for a long LONG time, and now it's coming out every so often on tour. But I'm cool with it in an encore or in the "JM SOLO" section of a show - every now and again. It's a great song, no matter how you cut it, lyrically and musically.

I love all the performances from this Storytellers! lol, Who Says was amazing. But yes, I definitely love the stripped down version of YBIAW like it is here. Somehow it makes it even better.

I gotta say I was dissapointed in the three times I saw him in 2010, he didn't perform this once :( Oh well, there's always next year ;) Hopefully?
