This Title Changed To Protect the Non-Viewing

Tonight, I'm not sending y'all over to last.fm, because I've got something I want to get off my chest. It's a bit o' rambling, but savage it as you will.

Cut for the time-zone impaired...spoiler ahead )

Thanks...that put a smile on my face right before bed. I guess this is my "can't we all just get along" post.

The emotions connected to Idol, and other more serious issues like the Democratic primary where fellow Democrats have behaved perniciously (although nothing compared to the Vietnam/Watergate years) stems (in my opinion) from a perceived lack of control in our lives.

I could go on and elaborate but it's early and those thoughts are really worthy (concietedly so) of a separate post. :)

That's an angle I wouldn't have considered. My theory stems from the evolution of political partisanship, and I would point to the events following 9/11 as the watershed moment for this becoming okay. But as I've said before, it's human nature to take sides.

I'm really interested in what you have to say on this.

They're really both different buds on the same vine. Only question is which is cause and which is effect.

I really enjoyed reading your "bit o' rambling" as you put it. Great opinions! :-)

And, yes, although I love me some Fantasia - not sure what to think about that fire-engine red hair!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. As for the hair, I actually really enjoyed it! I came in on the tail end of it, so I can't really comment on the performance. Maybe I need to watch it on YouTube.

Someone got to the "just like the Democratic polarization, especially in the blogosphere" parallel before me! But it's true. Sometimes, people will just find a way to get my-team-vs.-your-team. In-group vs. out-group. It's a pretty strong tendency in human psychology.

That being said, this was a lovely essay of insight and perception, and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing!

I know I'm not inventing the wheel, and I'm sure someone else has recognized it, too, but it's been gnawing at me for a while. I'm glad you enjoyed this...it seems to have resonated with more people than I thought it would.
