Anyone reading this... do or did any of you ever have a dog with seizures? My dog Zoya has been sick for quite a while now... but she doesn't have epilepsy. It's rather due to her liver not being entirely healthy and when the toxins gather up, she starts having seizures ( Read more... )

Yikes! I know what its like to watch a beloved pet have seizures. My older dog started having them randomly a year back and now we have to keep her on a low dose of phenobarbotol (or however it's spelled). We are lucky it is cheaply manageable and she's not suffering at all from it. It's probably more traumatic to watch her than it is for her to have them. By the time she's back on her feet, she's probably forgotten she was disoriented and uncomfortable a couple minutes ago.

This sounds like something that would prompt either drastic dietary/pharmeceudical treatment or transplants in humans. Poor pup. I hope someone has some advise for you on this one. The liver is such a vital and tricky organ.

Thanks for the encouragement *hugs*
I don't exacly know what the problem with my dog is. She isn't that old (9 yrs) and she's been having these problems for about a year and more often lately. We keep her on a low-fat diet of homemade food, magnesium and liver pills. The problem is that she remembers her seizures and she's very weak. It's been going on for three days now (which is longer than ever) and she's barely walking. The vet doesn't know what to do and we can't go draggging her around to other clinics 'coz she doesn't take car trips very well.

It's interesting how come dogs just love the car and others just stress over it. Our older dog spends the entire time in the car whining and pacing/falling over while the younger one is like "YAY car!".

Poor pup. It sounds like the best you can do at this point is keep her as comfy as possible and hope her system works it all out. Best of luck and many hugs!
