Last year, I tried to do the 50 book challenge and I failed. I blamed the internet. I had actually acquired a iPod Touch last year with the intention of making it easier to read (I use it as a book reader) but it also made it easier to browse the internet...from bed. From anywhere actually. But, this year I've been reading a lot so I wanted to ( Read more... )

the book is quite good. His writing is intelligent and thoughtful as always. I would have preferred a book that was a little more inclusive of other Pagan traditions, but I suppose I shouldn't have expected that since it wasn't called "When Someone You Love is Pagan".

Oddly enough, I actually had some anger issues come up while reading the book that I hadn't felt toward Carl since his conversion. I had always been a defender of his because I was angry that a lot of his friends would use religion to alienate him. Seemed to me that if we wanted religious equality then we should offer that back in return. That being said, while I was reading the book I kind of felt like it was all a great big lie because I knew that he no longer believed in anything he said. I processed those feelings, though, and came to terms with it. There are a lot of things in my life that I have changed my opinion on and I should respect that with him as well.

I love Carl but as doug always points out, he'd make a great used car sales man. ;-)

(the winky smiley guy means I'm being all light hearted and not mean. hahaha)

Thank you for listing these. I am always interested in what people on my friend's list are reading. I am going to take a look at several of them because they look like books I would like to read.

What did you start and not get into? I do that sometimes. Once in a while I go back and end up loving them, and then some just remain unread...

They were:

Zombie Spaceship Wasteland by Patton Oswalt. It is a comedy/memoire. I might go back to that.

Letters of a Woman Homesteader by Elinore Pruitt Stewart - It was a free ebook through Amazon but I never got into it.

All Things Shining by Hubert Dreyfus - a book on modern philosophy. I actually got about halfway though and started craving some mindless fiction. I may go back to it too.

The Spell by Heather Killough-Walden
This was also a $1 book on Kindle and I just think it is bad. The other $1 books weren't great either, but they were at least entertaining. This was not.
