Finally got around to seeing the new Alice in Wonderland movie. I had heard mix reviews from both critics and friends, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But, we wanted to see a movie and Alice in Wonderland 3D seemed as good a movie as any ( Read more... )

It's impossible to really be a purist about any movie version of Alice in Wonderland, bc the original story has no plot. It goes, "Alice falls down a rabbit hole and weird shit happens. The end." Through the Looking Glass is slightly more complex--"Alice goes through a mirror and plays live action chess while weird shit happens." So the movie is essentially fanfic with some of the same characters, but it almost has to be if Burton wants to make a real story of it.

I really enjoyed it, but felt the ending was contrived and tack-on, and ran on way too long. I agree with you about both queens--I don't think Anne Hathaway had enough to *do* as the WQ, and that floaty arm business was annoying after a while.
