It has been a little while since I posted anything here, but I wanted to take part in the Influence Map meme, and neither of my blogs are about my creative endeavours, so I'm back here for the day.

I only just discovered Lady Hester Stanhope for myself this past fortnight (stumbled across a mention of her while I was researching something else), but I suspect I'm going to be doing a lot more reading about her in the near future. Any recommendations for a good biography?

I first discovered her in a BBC one-hour drama from the mid 90s, where she was played by Jennifer Saunders. I'd recommend Lorna Gibbs' 'Lady Hester'. The cover is actually the same as the image I used here. It's really an extraordinary story, and one that I'd love to do something with one day.

Ah I just read The Man Who Was Thursday, it's stunning. The last few chapters are so rich. Augh what a book. New favourite, for sure.
