Betty Carstairs is a truly extraordinary character. We're talking 'Hester Stanhope' levels of extraordinary. I read a fascinating book about her life called The Queen of Whale Cay, which is where I first heard of Dotty. If the book is still on a bookshelf in Tooting, you may take it with my blessing on your next visit.
