The problem I have with Slumdog Millionaire is I've seen the trailer a few times and I really don't fancy seeing it. But now I feel I have to see it cause it's winning all these awards.
It's a half-hour comedy show set behind the scenes at a faux Saturday Night Live show, starring Alec Baldwin as a TV bigwig and Tina Fey as a writer/producer thingy. It's not to be confused with Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which was the same idea but longer and with fewer jokes and no viewers. I've seen a couple of episodes of 30 Rock, and it seems quite witty. I get the impression that it's a little more about people's love lives than it is about a TV show.
They pretty much abandoned the "it's about a TV show" principle halfway through the first season, and now the TV show is the excuse to do stories about whatever the fuck they want and have everybody be absolutely fucking insane, which is exactly why the show is so funny.
I watched Milk a while ago, and Penn's performance still stands out as incredible to me. He acted an entire personality, not just a few defining characteristics.
I will most readily join you in your admiration of Kate Winslet, for she is a splendid actress, but her speech was very Hollywoodish, was it not? It made me worry a little bit for her sanity. Which is probably too late anyway.
