It's Mamoru's dream; that much is clear as you can see the back of his head and the set of his shoulders as he walks ahead of you. If he realizes there's someone behind him, he gives no sign ( Read more... )

Ken slips in a bit closer, kneeling down to offer his still stained fingers to the cat while he watches Mamoru.

The cat sniffs Ken's fingers delicately, then begins lapping at the stains, cleaning him gently. The tongue feels as rough and real as any cat's.

If Mamoru sees them, he gives no indication of it. He sits on the bed beside the Ouka's body, treating her with no more care than he'd give an abandoned toy, and leans over to explore the drawers in the bedside table. Whatever he's looking for, it's not there, either.

Ken smiles faintly down at the cat, smoothing his hand along the silky ears before he stands, peering down at Mamoru.

Mamoru stands as though he's not there, leaving the room. The cat follows after a beat, stopping to lick up a small pool of blood left where he stood for a few minutes later.

Into the next room. It's a long hall, the walls lined with portraits and, wherever possible, more dolls. Masafumi is there, as well as Reiji and Hirofumi. One has a pull chord to make him speak; spare clothes for another are heaped on his stand. Mamoru passes them all and stops between his father's body and a portrait of his mother. The scent of freesias grows strong again and the cat hops onto Masafumi's shoulders, curling around his neck.
