I HAVE COMPLETELY RETURNED TO THE FANDOM!

lol, nobody cares.

But after having been freed the influence of the superhistorical!BNFs (whose fic depressed me and made me feel shitty about the world and about myself as a writer) for quite some time, I have learned THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS HETALIA.

Hetalia is not about history. It was never really ( Read more... )

the pemise is a lie, hetalia, i think too much, born-again fandom, i talk too much

It explains EVERYTHING, doesn't it? I always blame the series' lack of focus on any one arc, tendancy to NOT do serious strips (even the vauge kind that are in canon), and occasional internal inconsistancies on Hiryumara getting "distracted by bunnies." Because if there's one thing constantly present in canon, it's baby animals.

THIS.
You have just expressed exactly why I was feeling uncomfortable with the fandom, but when I read the old chapters again, I was like ♥ but I still couldn't put my finger on what exactly was the difference between canon output and fandom output. I may link this to my LJ, as a reminder to self and to help explain my outlook if I ever decide to scribble any more fic. Would you mind it if/when I did? :)

YES YOU CAN
(I'm actually suprised that you thought it was well-expressed. I'm usually bad at organizing my thoughts. )
More people need to realize that superhistory!fandom is not the only way to enjoy the series, or even the best way! It's gotten to the point where someone saying that a fic "isn't hetalia anymore" is a compliment, which in any other fandom (except Pokemon, apparently, but that's a rant for another time) would be considered a BAD thing. It's just much easier to enjoy the canon itself (and for people who aren't history majors to participate in the intellectual side of the fandom, which would level the BNF playing field) if you don't look at it as Really Crappy History but instead as Suprisingly Good Characters and Worldbuilding.
