I see your point, but Michael Jackson's talent improved and inspired a lot of people's lives, I'm sure. Its all about love, so don't hate on that, my brother.
I've got nothing against his professional career. My critique is of society, and our absurd worship of things that are far more transient than we believe.
How many soldiers were blown up by IEDs this month, and how little public admiration was fostered for them by the media?
Michael's inspiration to others is important, but far less pragmatic and relevant to our world than the media makes it out to be. In an economic downturn where there is a shortage of doctors, scientists, engineers, a large scale war operation in the middle east, and rising illiteracy rates, I find a man singing catchy pop tunes to be rather low on the list of motivators that America needs.
But of course, without MJ, we would not have Weird Al's "Eat it", which is reason enough for me to be in mourning 8-)
