:-) I love your comments here, and yes - it's a very slight adventure, but the leads are just lovely. (♥ for your gif, btw!! Aw.)
And,, I'd never thought about the sonic spanner thing.
Vicki is just wonderful. And I like Barbara, after all the things she goes through, being genuinely upset by the idea that she's hundreds of years old!
Nothing about the Didonians makes sense, though. Maybe they weren't as friendly as the Doctor thought (or they had a more savage past before that... and maybe they have really sophisticated cloning techniques or something? Heh.)
I like Barbara, after all the things she goes through, being genuinely upset by the idea that she's hundreds of years old! Bless her. Drive a stolen truck through a herd of Daleks? Fine. Shoot and kill an apparently ravenous beast? Fine. But tell her that from the point of view of the 25th century, she is several hundred years old, and she gets all upset! I also love that Vicki shows how little she understands about the nature of time travel in that discussion, because really, how could she understand? She doesn't even believe them! It's such a good character scene - the adventure is stuffed with them. I can forgive any amount of plot illogic so long as the characters are strong!
I did love the Doctor/Ian banter. And it was really nice how Barbara asks about the door controls even though we know she already knew where they were

Hello. I see you're working your way through quite a few of these, so hi, nice to 'meet' you. Although a word of warning - these reviews can be quite erratic! Some were written very off-the-cuff, others are more in-depth. Some are first impressions of serials I hadn't seen before (or not in 20+ years), others are more detailed thoughts about long-time favourites. Some were based on notes made while watching, others were written more from memory. So there's a real mixed bag! I could write each one a dozen times and say something different every time! When I first started re-watching the classic show, having not seen much of it in many years, I wanted to keep a record of my reactions to each story, as a reminder to myself, and this project was the result.
I do love Ian's sense of humour - it's part of why he and the more serious-minded Barbara complement one another so well.
I love this story. Of course it doesn't hurt that I think that David Whitaker could do no wrong. He was the script editor of the first production block, which ended with The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Basically he wrote the first story of the second block to help his successor by giving him a handle on all of the characters, which is why this is a very character-centric story with very little plot. To give you an idea of why I like Whitaker so much, he's also the writer of The Crusade, another one of the fantastic historicals that we have in these early days of the series.
I've always assumed that the light fluctuations in the cave are supposed to be from the lamp on the top of the TARDIS. I don't know why it would still be flashing when every other time that we've seen it flash coincides with materialization but that appears to be where it's coming from

I like your idea about the Doctor getting the dates wrong on Dido and being out of order - that's very timey-wimey and very plausible!
